The Senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District, Aminu Iya Abbas, has presented fifty thousand (50,000) naira in cash to over six hundred (600) constituents, along with Point of Sale (POS) machines and a take-off grant, as part of his Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) empowerment program.
Presenting the cash and other empowerment tools to the beneficiaries at the event held in Fatfatis Hall, Jimeta Yola, over the weekend, the Senator said that the program was organized to help the beneficiaries become self-reliant.
Iya Abbas explained that the empowerment program, which cuts across women, youths, and other less privileged households in the seven local government areas of his constituency, aimed to give back to those who voted for him to represent them.
The Senator also revealed that, apart from taking care of the needs of the electorate, his legislative performance had yielded positive results among his people.
He also disclosed plans to build two solar mini-grids worth 500 million naira each in Jimeta Ultra Modern Market this year and Yola Main Market, if completed by the state government, to strengthen energy access.
He used the forum to inform the gathering about his plans to award scholarships to over 2000 students of tertiary institutions from the Adamawa Central Senatorial District, saying that the gesture is to guarantee the future of the youth.
During the event, Senator Abbas also inaugurated his liaison office structures across the seventy-six (76) political wards of Adamawa Central to serve as his representatives in order to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the electorate.
While appreciating Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and other critical stakeholders in the state for their concern, Aminu Iya Abbas promised not to misuse the confidence reposed in him by the people of Adamawa Central.
The wife of the Governor, Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, who was represented during the program by Hajiya Asabe Shaibu, encouraged the beneficiaries to make good use of the support for the overall development of Adamawa State.
In his remarks, the Director General of the Aminu Iya Abbas Campaign Council in the 2023 election, Alhaji Usman Muhammad Kaura, described the Senator as a leader who puts the interest of his people above his personal interest and urged the people of the zone and the state in general to support him for more democracy dividends.
Speaking separately, the State Secretary of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and one of the party stakeholders, Alhaji Ahmed Lawan, lauded the quality representation of Senator Aminu Iya Abbas, saying that the people of Adamawa Central are lucky to have him as their representative at the National Assembly.
Some of the beneficiaries, who responded on behalf of others, appreciated the Senator for the support and promised to utilize the gesture judiciously.
Also during the event, the leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), alongside other members from Modibbo Adama University (MAU), Yola, presented an award of excellence to Senator Aminu Iya Abbas for his outstanding contribution towards educational development in the state.
The students' union, while presenting the award during an event at Fatfatis Hall in Yola, lauded the Senator for prioritizing education in Adamawa State.
The NANS leadership also thanked the Senator for being a major stakeholder in the Association, acknowledging that finding some students worthy of such scholarships is the best encouragement from a leader of his repute.
