The Niger State Government has signed an agreement with Dar Al Handasah for consultancy services to develop the master plan for the Minna Airport Agro-Processing Free Zone. The agreement was formalized at the Niger State liaison office in Abuja.
Secretary to the State Government, Alh. Abubakar Usman, signed on behalf of the state, while the Resident Manager of Dar Al Handasah, Mohammad Itani, signed for the consultancy firm.
Former Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago expressed his delight with the agreement, stating that the state government, in its search for a competent company, discovered that Dar Al Handasah is a leading consultancy firm specializing in the design and planning of mega-modern cities.
He mentioned that the state government also intends to develop master plans for Minna, Bida, and Kontagora to maximize the economic potential around the newly constructed ring roads.
The former governor expressed confidence that the agreement would be successful and beneficial to the state and its people.
In an interview with journalists, Resident Manager Mohammad Itani disclosed that the feasibility study for the master plan would take four months. Following this, the master plan will detail land allocation, greenhouse postulation, and the functioning of the agro-industry, among other aspects.
Itani acknowledged Niger State's rich agricultural resources, emphasizing that it will serve as a hub for food production both nationally and internationally. He noted that the project would provide a strategy for implementation and explore the state's economic viability, thereby unlocking additional potential.
Itani expressed optimism that the completed master plan would facilitate the actualization of the agro-industry, enabling the transport of products out of the state by air. He highlighted Dar Al Handasah's track record of executing high-standard projects and assured the government and people of Niger State that the firm would meet all expectations.
Additionally, Mr. Sammy Adigun, Chairman of Niger Foods, described the project as substantial, encompassing 3,000 hectares of land. He stated that upon completion, the project would enable the state to export food and other products globally, providing significant socio-economic benefits to the people.
