An Abuja-based faith organization, Resurrection Praying Mothers of Nation Association (RPMNA), has appealed to the organizers of the planned hardship protest to reconsider their plans for the sake of peace and national development.
Rev. Dr. Lois Angula, National President of RPMNA, addressed journalists in Abuja over the weekend. She acknowledged that Nigerians are facing tough times but stressed that a protest of this magnitude is not in the nation's best interest.
"There is a higher tendency for such protests to escalate into full-blown violence and criminality," Dr. Angula warned. "What Nigeria needs at this trying time is prayers."
“We are calling on our fathers, uncles, husbands, and our children, the youth, to remember that violence never solves anything. Even a bad peace is better than the best violence. Let them sheath their swords and avoid bloodshed,” she said.
Dr. Angula referenced the ENDSARS protests, noting how they began peacefully but ended in tragedy, with many innocent lives lost. “Those who were killed were meant to be our future leaders. As mothers, we do not want this to happen to our husbands or children again, much less something worse. This is why we are pleading,” she added.
According to Dr. Angula, President Tinubu needs more time and patience from Nigerians, given that his administration started on a difficult footing. She emphasized the importance of praying for the President, pointing out that he is already taking steps in the right direction, but change will not come quickly.
“Nigeria is in a precarious situation, and only peace can bring out the best in our fragile nation. Without peace, there can be no development. We need to engage in intense prayers for our leaders at all levels. This is the time to believe that things will change for the better. We have a greater Nigeria ahead of us,” she stated.
Drawing from scripture, the National President reiterated God's message in Jeremiah 29:11 concerning His plans for Israel, asserting that God also has good plans for Nigeria. “It is time to allow God’s plan to come to fruition,” she said.
“As intercessors, we will continue to pray for Nigeria so that God’s plans for the country will come to pass. As a faith-based organization, RPMNA provides a platform for all praying mothers who wish to be effective in their prayer devotion for Nigeria and the world. We are a non-denominational organization dedicated to raising a generation of women in Nigeria who submit to the Lordship of Jesus and the Holy Spirit, with a burning desire for the gift of intercession and yielding their lives to God’s agenda.”
“We do not only pray but also put faith into action by organizing empowerment programs to assist the needy in our country. We reach out to prostitutes, the destitute, the vulnerable, and drug addicts, helping them to discover and develop their God-given talents to effectively carry out the mandate of the great commission. We also collaborate with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), and other inter-denominational fellowships,” she concluded.
