The Managing Director of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his prompt and strategic response to flooding through initiatives aimed at mitigating and cushioning the impact of the disaster.

Yelwa stated that the federal government, through its institutions, is working around the clock to ensure that communities affected by floods receive support to cope with the disaster and its consequences, while those prone to such hazards are sensitized to adopt safety measures.

He described the actions taken as an apt and clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s concern for environmental issues and the safety of its citizens, especially the immediate remedial measures implemented for critical infrastructure affected across the country.

He reiterated the Commission's commitment to conducting sensitization campaigns and raising awareness, as well as facilitating efforts to address both the short- and long-term causes of flooding and other environmental challenges.

The Managing Director made these remarks while addressing a team of facilitators receiving training in Abuja to train enumerators for the Commission's 2024 Needs Assessment and Community Mapping Exercise across its member states.

He stated that the Needs Assessment Exercise is part of the Commission's strategy for executing projects and programs in line with the aggregate needs of the communities.

He expressed confidence that the 2024 exercise will provide the necessary data for better planning and implementation of projects and programs compared to previous exercises, as it will be conducted by the Commission's staff, who have a better understanding of the system.

The Managing Director commended the Management Committee, Resource Persons, and participants for their passion and commitment throughout the exercise.
