The serene atmosphere of Yankari Game Reserve was filled with the rich scents of tradition and history, as dignitaries from across West Africa and beyond gathered for a prestigious event. Organized by Arewa Youth and Women for Change, Nigeria, the occasion was a blend of excellence and celebration.
Among the distinguished attendees were guests from Ghana, Chad, Cameroon, Niger Republic, and other countries from Central and Eastern Africa. The colourful and significant event unfolded in line with international protocol standards.
The program officially commenced around 12:00 noon, Nigerian time (8:00 a.m. GMT), with dignitaries from various parts of the world gracing the occasion. Dr. Nasir Mohammad, General Manager of Yankari Game Reserve, welcomed Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Auwal Jatau, at 11:30 a.m., escorted him around to meet with other dignitaries before the event began.
The Deputy Governor represented Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir at the event. The Minister of State for Youth Development was also present as an award recipient, alongside other notable African figures who were similarly honoured.
In his remarks, Dr Umar Aliyu praised the efforts of the event organizers, encouraging them to continue their good work in promoting peace and harmony across communities in Nigeria and throughout Africa. He emphasized the critical role of peace in fostering socio-economic and political development, stating that it is a crucial foundation for progress globally.
The Minister of Youth Development reiterated the importance of empowering youth as the cornerstone of strong democratic institutions. He highlighted how such institutions could elevate Nigeria on the global stage, enhance the country's investment opportunities, address challenges in the energy sector, and ultimately drive sustainable economic growth.
He also noted that President Bola Ahmad Tinubu’s "Renewed Hope" agenda is already in motion, urging Nigerians to remain patient as the benefits of the administration's efforts will soon become apparent.
In his closing remarks, the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Auwal Jatau, emphasized that peace is essential for economic prosperity. He noted that Governor Bala Mohammed's policies are focused on enhancing the productivity and livelihoods of Bauchi State citizens for sustainable development and peace.
He also mentioned the economic initiatives taken by the government, such as injecting funds into small and medium-sized enterprises to boost the state's internally generated revenue (IGR) and tackle infrastructure deficits.
The event concluded with the Deputy Governor extending Governor Bala Mohammed’s gratitude and congratulations to all participants and wishing them safe travels home.
