Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has announced a donation of N250 million as an endowment fund to New Gate University. The donation was revealed at the commissioning of several university facilities in Minna, including the Gen. Abdulsalami Alhaji Abubakar Informatics and Innovation Complex, a 400-seat multipurpose auditorium, and the Dr. Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu Library.
Governor Bago specified that N100 million of the donation is on behalf of his family and that of the late Engineer Abdullahi Abdulkadir Kure, while the remaining N150 million is from the Niger State government.
He also announced scholarships for the 50 top-performing medical students, offering them opportunities to study abroad in Canada, the Dominican Republic, China, and India. Bago commended Hassan Nuhu, Pro-Chancellor of New Gate University, for his dedication to education and encouraged the institution to establish a Department of Agriculture, aligning with Niger State’s economic strengths.
Governor Bago reiterated his commitment to transforming Niger State into Nigeria’s "Massachusetts" of education.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Sadiq Yusuf highlighted the significance of the new projects for enhancing the university’s resources and educational impact. Pro-Chancellor Hassan Nuhu reaffirmed the university’s dedication to producing skilled graduates who would contribute to state and national development.
In attendance were Former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, Former Niger State Governor Dr. Mu'azu Babangida Aliyu, and Sen. Zainab Kure, representing the late Engineer Abdullahi Abdulkadir Kure’s family, all of whom expressed their support for the institution's mission.
