The Office of the Zamfara State Governor’s Wife has partnered with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) to enhance girls' education in the state.

The Governor’s Wife, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, made the announcement on Thursday during a ceremony to hand over a laboratory equipped by her office, held in Gusau.

"Our administration consistently places education at the forefront of its six smart agenda, with a particular focus on ensuring that girls receive quality education as a pathway to a brighter future," Hajiya Huriyya said.

She stressed the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education for girls. "We believe that for our girls to succeed in today’s world, they must have access to quality education, especially in fields like STEM. STEM education provides girls with the tools they need to actively shape the future, and we are committed to breaking down barriers that have historically held them back in these areas."

The partnership between the Office of the First Lady and AGILE, a World Bank-assisted project under the Federal Ministry of Education, aims to improve secondary education opportunities for girls in targeted areas of the state.

To demonstrate her commitment to this cause, Hajiya Huriyya equipped a girls’ secondary school laboratory with modern facilities to enhance STEM learning. "As part of our efforts to support STEM education for girls, we have equipped one of the girls' secondary school laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment," she explained.

Unveiling the "Advanced STEM Laboratory" work plan, she urged stakeholders to continue collaborating to create more inclusive opportunities for girls in the state.

"I want to reaffirm Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration’s commitment to supporting the AGILE project and its mission to promote girls’ education and empowerment. Together, we will strengthen these initiatives to ensure that every girl in our state has the chance to succeed."
