Niger Police Arrest 10 Suspects, Recover Firearms and Ammunition

As part of measures taken by the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman in executing the Command's 2025 Policing action plan to curb crime and criminality in the new year, the Command's operatives made the following recent achievement as follows;

RECOVERY OF 520 ROUNDS OF LIVE AMMUNITION

On January 23rd, 2025 at about 12.30am, the Police operatives of Nku police station under Doko Division with vigilante members while on routine stop and search along Bida-Nku-Patigi road linking to Kwara State, intercepted a motorcycle with two persons and in the process of interrogating them, the two suspects took to their heels and abandoned a sack.

This action raised serious suspicion and the sack was immediately searched. Fortunately, about five hundred and twenty rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition were recovered. However, the exhibit is under investigation and effort is being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects.

(2) A SUSPECT ARRESTED FOR CULPABLE HOMICIDE

On January 18th, 2025 at about 8pm, Police operatives of Bangi Div arrested one Jamilu Saidu of Kumbashi District, Mariga LGA for culpable homicide of Iliyasu Aminu 30yrs of the same area.

It was reported that a fight ensued between two villages which  involved Yabawa village and Ungwar Sarkin-Daji of Kumbashi District due to a sour marriage ceremony, and in the process, the suspect Jamilu matcheted the deceased Iliyasu Aminu on the head to death.

The suspect confessed to the crime and he has been transferred to SCID Minna for further investigation and diligent prosecution.

(3) A SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER ARRESTED WITH ONE LOCALLY MADE SHORT GUN

On January 17th, 2025 at about 10am, Police operatives of 'A' Div Kontangora arrested one Nasiru Isyaka of Sabon-Gari Mangu Matachibu village via Kontagora. The suspect was arrested in connection with a kidnapping incident that occurred on December 29th, 2024 at the same village, where some armed men invaded the village, shot a victim dead and kidnapped two others, but were later rescued through a joint security effort.

In the course of preliminary investigation, the suspect was arrested when he visited one of the victims in his home, and he was identified to be one of the kidnappers. One locally made short gun was recovered from him and he confessed to the crime. He has also been transferred to the Police headquarters, Minna for an in-depth investigation and prosecution. Effort is ongoing to arrest other members of the gang

(4) THREE SUSPECTS IN CUSTODY FOR CONSPIRACY AND ARMED ROBBERY

On January 15th, 2025 at about 1am, Police operatives of Maitumbi Div intercepted and arrested three suspected robbers;

-Isah  Bello 21yrs

-Abdulsalam Abubakar 23yrs

-Nasir Mohammed 25yrs all of FM area of Maitumbi, Minna.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects burgled students quarters of a school of health in Maitumbi, tied the students and robbed them of their valuables such as phones, chargers, power bank, clipper, ATM cards, and some money.

One of the robbed power banks, phone charger and an electric torch light were recovered from the suspects. They are under investigation in SCID Minna.

(5) TWO ARRESTED FOR CONSPIRACY AND THEFT OF MOTORCYCLE

On 23rd January, 2025 at about 10pm, Police detectives of Kuta Div arrested two suspects; Adamu Yakubu and Abdulrahman Usman, both of Dama and Kushi villages. The two suspects reportedly conspired and stole a bajaj motorcycle from a wedding ceremony. The motorcycle was recovered from the suspects and they will be prosecuted accordingly.

(6) THREE OTHERS ARRESTED FOR  CONSPIRACY AND VANDALIZATION

On 24th January, 2025 at about 3am, Police patrol teams of Minna Area Command arrested three suspects;

-Shamsudeen Ibrahim

-Faisal Aliyu

-Abba Shuaibu all of Limawa area, Minna

They were arrested on the street of Limawa at the early hours of the day vandalizing the street light cables with digger and hammer. They are also undergoing investigation in SCID Minna.

The Command appreciates efforts of members of the public for the trust and partnership, and assures of the continuous commitment of the Command to reduce crime and criminality to the barest minimum in the State.
