President Bola Tinubu has appointed Nasiru Gawuna, the former Deputy Governor of Kano State, as the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria.
The announcement was made on Friday through a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
Gawuna, who was the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2023 Kano State governorship election, previously served as the Chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University, Kano, following his appointment in 2024.
He initially became Deputy Governor under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in 2018 after the resignation of Prof. Hafiz Abubakar. Despite aspirations to succeed Ganduje as governor, Gawuna’s political bid was thwarted by the rise of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), which propelled Governor Abba Yusuf into office.
In a related development, President Tinubu also appointed Ganduje as the Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
