World leaders from over 70 countries, including the leader of the Islamic movement, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, attended the funeral of former Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah.
The Office of Sheikh Zakzaky shared photographs showing him alongside close allies at Beirut International Airport.
On Sunday, February 23, 2025, Sheikh Zakzaky joined millions of mourners who gathered at the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium on the outskirts of Beirut.
Mourners also paid their respects to Hashem Safieddine, Nasrallah’s successor, who was killed in a separate Israeli airstrike in October.
Nasrallah, the former leader of Hezbollah, was regarded as one of the most influential figures in West Asia and on the global stage.
Hours before the funeral began, Israel launched airstrikes in southern Lebanon.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Naim Qassem, the secretary general of Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement, praised the late Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah’s contributions to the Palestinian cause. He pledged that Hezbollah would remain steadfast and continue along Nasrallah’s path.
"Sayyed Nasrallah's contribution was significant in reviving the Palestinian cause. We will preserve this trust and continue on this path," Sheikh Qassem said.
Nasrallah was assassinated in Israeli airstrikes on southern Beirut on September 27, 2024, following a week-long bombing campaign that targeted several areas from southern Lebanon to the capital.
Safieddine was also assassinated in an Israeli strike on October 3, 2024.
Hezbollah had postponed funeral ceremonies for both leaders due to concerns over potential Israeli attacks targeting the gatherings.
