The Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Numan Extension Center, in collaboration with the Member of the House of Representatives representing Demsa/Numan/Lamurde Federal Constituency in Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti Bitrus La'ori, has successfully graduated a group of youth trained in footwear design and manufacturing. The graduation ceremony took place on Friday in Numan.
In his remarks at the event, Rt. Hon. Kwamoti La'ori commended the graduates for their dedication to completing the training program. He urged them to take advantage of the opportunity to become self-reliant, emphasizing the importance of the skills they had acquired.
"This is a profession you can rely on because the products you create will always be in demand," La'ori said. "We are committed to empowering our youth, as we believe that skill acquisition is key to self-sufficiency and sustainable development."
The lawmaker also announced plans to establish a permanent school in Numan. "Since we have been given this extension center, it is only right that we build a proper facility to serve our people," he added.
Earlier, the training master from NILEST, Mr. Ishidi Daniel Moses, highlighted the institute's mandate to provide skill-based education across the nation. He praised the graduates for their commitment and encouraged them to share their knowledge with others.
The Chairman of Numan Local Government Council, Mr. Ennocent Koto, also expressed his gratitude, saying, "You have taught our youth how to catch fish instead of just giving them fish. For that, we are truly grateful."
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Musa Abdullahi and Julius Joses described the day as one of immense joy. "We are proud of the skills we have learned. We thank Hon. La'ori for this opportunity and promise not to disappoint," they said.
This is not the first time Rt. Hon. Kwamoti La'ori has supported youth empowerment initiatives in the constituency. Recently, he sponsored peacebuilding and conflict resolution training for 150 women and 150 youth in the area.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates and financial support of one hundred thousand naira to each graduate by Rt. Hon. Kwamoti La'ori.
