The Shira Local Government Legislative Council in Bauchi state has removed the Chairman of Shira Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli, and his deputy, Hon. Usman Adamu, from office over allegations of gross misconduct, financial mismanagement, failure to perform duties, and abuse of office.

The council also declared the offices of the Chairman and vice chairman of Shira local government vacant pending the election of a new chairman and deputy.

In a letter submitted to the Bauchi State House of Assembly on Monday, the council announced that the removal of the chairman and his deputy takes effect immediately from March 3, 2025.

The letter, signed by Council Leader Hon. Wali Adamu and deputy Council Leader Hon. Abdullahi Wada, stated that the decision followed an investigation that found the chairman and his deputy guilty of the allegations against them.

The decision was endorsed by 16 out of the 18 councillors in Shira Local Government.

Speaking to journalists after submitting the letter, Council Leader Hon. Wali Adamu explained that before taking this decision, the council had formed an investigative committee to examine the allegations.

"The committee thoroughly investigated the chairman and his deputy and found them guilty of gross misconduct, financial mismanagement, failure to perform their duties, and abuse of office," Adamu said.

He further stated that the council followed all legal procedures before making the decision.

"We repeatedly brought the chairman's attention to these issues and urged him to make corrections, but he refused. Additionally, he failed to call council meetings as required," Adamu added.

According to him, after reviewing the committee's report, the councillors unanimously resolved to remove the chairman and his deputy.

The Shira Local Government Legislative Council officially declared the offices of Chairman and vice chairman vacant and appointed Council Leader Hon. Wali Adamu as acting chairman of Shira local Government, pending the election of a new chairman and deputy.

Other councilors adopted decisions are Hon. Wali Adamu, Councillor Tumfafi ward (Council leader),  Hon. Abdullahi Wada, Councillor Andubun ward, Hon. Umar Garba, Councillor Bangire ward, and Hon. Garba A. Haladu, Councillor Bukulward.

Other councilors are Hon. Babangida Umar, Councillor Disina Award, Hon. Garba Sadi, Councillor Disina B ward, Hon. Usman Bello, Councillor Dango ward as well as Hon. Ishaqa A. Mamuda, Councillor Faggu B ward.

The rest are Dalhatu A. Haruna, Councilor Gagibida ward, Hon. Al Hassan Mohammed, Councilor Kilbori A ward; Hon. Garba Bello, Councilor Kilbori B; Hon. Ayuba Buhari, Councilor Shira ward; Hon. Saadu Shehu, Councilor Sambuwa ward; Hajiya Hadiza Adamu, Councilor Beli ward; Aminu Umar, Councilor Tsafi ward and Magaji Mohammed, Councilor Zubo ward.
