Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reassured the people of the state of his unwavering commitment to peace, security, and good governance despite ongoing political challenges.
In an official address to the people of Rivers State, Governor Fubara expressed his deep sense of responsibility in navigating the current political situation, emphasizing that his administration remains guided by constitutional principles and a commitment to public service.
“Since assuming office as your Governor, all my actions and decisions have been guided by my constitutional oath of office and a great sense of duty,” he stated.
The governor highlighted the administration’s efforts to maintain law and order, foster progress, and uphold democratic values even in the face of opposition. He reiterated that his government had implemented peace initiatives in good faith following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention, including reinstating commissioners who had previously resigned.
“Immediately after Mr. President’s intervention to broker peace, we did not hesitate to implement the agreed terms in good faith, including welcoming back commissioners who had previously resigned on their own volition,” Fubara explained.
Additionally, he affirmed that his government swiftly complied with a Supreme Court judgment once the certified true copy was received, in a bid to restore normalcy.
However, he lamented that efforts to sustain peace were being obstructed. “Unfortunately, at every turn, members of the Rivers State House of Assembly frustrated our efforts, thus making genuine peace and progress difficult,” he said.
Despite these challenges, Governor Fubara reassured citizens that governance had not stalled, noting that salaries were being paid, projects were ongoing, and security remained intact.
“At this critical time, I urge all Rivers people to remain peaceful and law-abiding. We will engage with all relevant institutions to ensure that our democracy remains strong and that Rivers State continues to thrive,” he urged.
The governor called on the people to face the situation with resilience, wisdom, and faith in democracy, while reaffirming his commitment to the state's unity and development.
“God bless Rivers State. God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he concluded.
Governor Fubara’s statement comes amid heightened political tension in the state, with ongoing disputes between his administration and the state legislature. However, his message sought to reassure residents that governance remains on track, prioritizing the well-being of the people.
