The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST), Dr. Auwal Mustapha Imam, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, at the Government House in Katsina, seeking collaboration on youth training in leather production.
During the meeting, Dr. Imam highlighted the strategic importance of partnering with the Department of Leather Works at the Katsina Youth Craft Village (KYCV) to empower young people through vocational skills in leather technology and production.
He emphasized NILEST’s commitment to fostering industrial skills among youths, adding that such collaboration would contribute significantly to national development and job creation.
In response, Governor Radda welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely and commendable move aligned with his administration’s vision.
“This is a welcome development. We have approved the sum of N123 million for the training of students at the Katsina Youth Craft Village in the 2025 budget,” the governor stated.
He reiterated his administration’s resolve to transform young people from job seekers into job creators through practical skills acquisition.
“By equipping our young people with marketable skills, we're not merely taking them off the streets, but transforming them into productive entrepreneurs and future employers of labour,” Governor Radda added.
Speaking on the outcome of the visit, Nuhu Basheer Masa, Personal Assistant on Media and Communication to the DG of NILEST, said the meeting marked a significant milestone in the institute’s mission to expand its outreach.
“This visit is a major step towards strengthening institutional collaboration for youth empowerment. We are optimistic that the partnership will yield tangible results in skill development and economic growth,” Masa said.
Following the meeting, the governor directed his protocol team to accompany Dr. Imam and his delegation to inspect the KYCV facility located at the NYSC camp in Katsina, signalling immediate steps toward the implementation of the proposed partnership.
