The Niger State Badminton Association has acknowledged the unwavering support of Governor Umaru Bago towards the development of sports, particularly badminton, in the state.

The commendation was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Nuhu Garba Ngaski, during the official presentation of the state’s bid document to host the 24th National Sports Festival. The presentation took place at the Government House, Minna.

Ngaski highlighted the significant contributions of Alhaji Nma Kolo, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters and Chairman of the Niger State Badminton Association, describing him as a major force behind the resurgence and success of badminton in the state.

“Alhaji Nma Kolo has been instrumental to the growth of badminton in Niger State. His support for local and national tournaments has propelled the game and motivated athletes to excel,” Ngaski said.

He noted that Kolo’s commitment was evident in the impressive performance of the state’s badminton team at the 23rd National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where Niger won gold in the doubles category, as well as silver and bronze in the singles events.

Ngaski also commended the Niger State Internal Revenue Service for its supportive role in advancing the broader sports sector in the state, citing its financial and logistical contributions to various sporting activities.

In his remarks, Governor Umaru Bago, who is widely recognized as a strong advocate for grassroots sports development, expressed appreciation to Alhaji Nma Kolo and the Revenue Service for their passion and commitment to youth empowerment through sports.

“We are proud of your efforts and contributions to building a strong sporting foundation in Niger State,” the governor said. “Our administration remains fully committed to supporting sports at all levels, not just for entertainment but as a tool for youth development and social cohesion.”

Governor Bago reaffirmed the state’s ambition to host the 24th edition of the National Sports Festival, scheduled to hold from December 28, 2028, expressing confidence in Niger's readiness to deliver a successful and inclusive event.

Niger State won a total of 10 medals at the last festival, a feat the government hopes to build on as it intensifies efforts to make the state a regional hub for sporting excellence.
