Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has declared open the 2025 Law Week of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dutse Branch, urging stronger ethical standards and faster justice delivery in the state’s legal system.

Speaking at the ceremony in Dutse, Governor Namadi commended the branch leadership for fostering unity and professionalism within the association.

“I have, for several months, followed with keen interest and admiration how you have administered and organized the State NBA Branch into a unified and formidable platform serving the positive interest of the legal profession and its esteemed members in Jigawa State and beyond,” the governor said.

He lauded the NBA’s commitment to promoting the rule of law, ensuring access to justice—particularly for the less privileged—and facilitating the smooth dispensation of justice in the state.

On the theme of the Law Week, “Upholding Justice Through Ethical Advocacy,” the governor described it as “very apt,” noting that it reinforces the value of ethical conduct in safeguarding justice and eliminating practices that hinder the judicial process.

Governor Namadi highlighted several justice sector reforms under his administration, including the establishment of Community Law Centres, the introduction of Zauren Sulhu (mediation forums), and plans to expand Citizens’ Rights Units across Judicial Divisions.

He urged all stakeholders in the justice system to perform their duties with integrity and a sense of accountability, “mindful of the fear of our Creator, WHO is Al-Adl (the Utterly Just) and Al-Hakam (the Ultimate Judge and Arbiter).”

The governor concluded by wishing the NBA a successful Law Week and expressed optimism that the deliberations would strengthen ethical standards in legal practice and enhance the smooth dispensation of justice in Jigawa State.
