The Arewa Youth Congress (AYC), a prominent coalition representing millions of young people across Northern Nigeria, has issued a strong vote of confidence in the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, calling for an extension of his tenure.

Speaking at a press briefing in Kaduna, Ambassador Hassan Sadau, Speaker of the AYC, praised Dembos’s transformative leadership at the helm of NTA, describing his tenure as a turning point in the evolution of public broadcasting in Nigeria.

“Since assuming office, Dembos has not merely occupied a position — he has redefined it,” Sadau stated. “Through bold reforms and visionary leadership, he has repositioned NTA as the most credible and respected public broadcaster on the African continent.”

The youth group noted that under Dembos’s stewardship, the NTA has witnessed unprecedented improvements in professionalism, content quality, and global relevance. His administration, they said, has elevated Nigeria’s broadcasting landscape and restored public trust in the national media.

The AYC reaffirmed its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing that Dembos has successfully translated policy visions into tangible national progress. His initiatives, they said, have provided young Nigerians with practical media skills, job opportunities, and digital platforms, positioning them to compete on the global stage.

In an era marked by misinformation and division, the AYC commended Dembos for transforming the NTA into a beacon of truth and unity.

“He has upheld journalistic integrity, promoted inclusive representation across ethnic and religious lines, and consistently projected Nigeria’s story with accuracy, dignity, and national pride,” the group stated.

They further highlighted key milestones of his tenure — including technological upgrades, expanded digital outreach, improved production standards, and stronger grassroots coverage — which have amplified the voices of marginalized communities and connected the diaspora with authentic narratives from home.

The AYC concluded by urging President Tinubu to extend the DG’s tenure, insisting that his “mission remains unfinished and his momentum unstoppable.”

“At this pivotal moment in Nigeria’s history, the nation cannot afford to interrupt a trajectory of proven leadership and results,” the statement read.
