In a major agricultural support initiative, Senator Shehu Buba Umar, who represents Bauchi South Senatorial District, has flagged off the distribution of seven truckloads of free fertilizer to farmers and launched a large-scale vaccination campaign targeting over 85,000 livestock across the constituency.

The fertilizer distribution exercise, which took place on Sunday in Bauchi, drew stakeholders, traditional leaders, and farmer representatives from across the senatorial district. Addressing the gathering, Senator Buba said the initiative is part of his broader commitment to enhancing food security and empowering farmers.

"This marks the third time in a row that we are distributing fertilizer to farmers. We thank Almighty Allah for granting us the opportunity to again provide our people with fertilizer in our efforts to support agricultural productivity," the Senator stated.

He emphasized that his agricultural interventions are aimed at reducing the cost burden for farmers and increasing crop yield, thereby improving livelihoods and promoting peaceful coexistence in the region. He also called on the distribution committee to ensure fairness and transparency in the sharing process.

In a related development, the lawmaker on Saturday flagged off a livestock vaccination campaign in Gwabiya, Bogoro Local Government Area. The campaign aims to vaccinate 85,000 cattle, goats, and sheep to prevent disease outbreaks and boost animal health.

“Our veterinary teams will move across the region to make sure no community is left out. This is an expansion of our earlier efforts, where 40,000 animals were vaccinated in Buzaye, Bauchi Local Government,” Senator Buba announced.

The livestock vaccination event was attended by dignitaries including Hon. Aminu Tukur, Hon. Buli, Hon. Yusuf, traditional leaders, and hundreds of pastoralists, many of whom expressed appreciation for the initiative.

Leaders of the Fulani community presented the Senator with traditional gifts—including fresh milk, fura, and dambu—in recognition of his continued support for both crop and livestock farmers.

The twin initiatives underscore Senator Buba’s ongoing agricultural agenda, which combines support for farmers and herders to foster development and harmony in Bauchi South.
