Grammy Award-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has revealed that he converted from Christianity to Islam in his lifelong search for spiritual truth and understanding.
In a recent interview with American streamer PlaqueBoyMax, the global music star said his journey through faith and philosophy has left him more inquisitive — and, at times, more confused — about the mysteries of existence.
“I grew up as a Christian, but then I converted to Islam and all types,” Burna Boy explained. “It’s like I have studied it all. I am still out here trying to find what is really going on.”
He described religion as a “controlled mechanism,” saying his personal research often found contradictions between science and religious texts. “In all my research, there is always one scientific fact that goes against every book. Everything comes from the workshop of the sun,” he said.
The African Giant crooner, however, maintained that despite his doubts about organized religion, he remains deeply spiritual. “All I know is that there’s something up there protecting me. When I pray, I feel like I’m being heard,” he said. “If we are creations, there must be a creator. Everyone just has their own version, and that’s what makes it confusing.”
Burna Boy’s remarks have sparked mixed reactions among fans, with some praising his honesty while others questioned his stance on religion and spirituality.
