Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial has clarified that the dissolution of the Senate Committee on Security and National Intelligence has nothing to do with his lack of performance in the red carpet chamber, saying a normal routine of the legislature.

Recall that during Wednesday's shake-up, the Senate dissolved its two key security committees, including the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence and the Senate Committee on Air Force. Both committees are to be reconstituted within one week.

Until this dissolution, Senator Shehu Buba (Bauchi South) served as Chairman of National Security and Intelligence, while Senator Godiya Akwashiki (Nasarawa North) chaired the Air Force Committee.

But Senator said the dissolution of the two Senate committees is geared to reposition and strengthen them, but has got nothing to do with his performance evaluation as speculated by some political pundits who want to turn the tables against him

Senator Shehu Buba Umar, through his spokesperson, Comrade Sabo Mohammed, on Thursday during a press conference in Bauchi, said that the dissolution of the Senate committees is also in respect to the unfolding development in the country with a view to strengthening the committees.

Comrade Sabo Mohammed explained that it is against that background that the Senator instructed him to intimate and inform the general public that what happened in the national assembly on Wednesday has nothing to do with his performance or his standing in the National Assembly.

"It is a normal routine, and we are using this medium to actually inform his constituents that all is well and Senator Shehu Umar is ever invigorated to continue with legislative activities that are geared towards improving the well-being of his constituents", Comrade Sabo said.

The spokesperson further explained that the Senator is ever ready to contribute his quota on behalf of his constituents, and to improve the well-being of Nigerians, as he is committed and appreciative of the opportunity bestowed on him by the Senate under the leadership of its President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Comrade Sabo added, "There is no cause for alarm, the senator is determined to continue with his programmatic and active, and impactful legislation in improving and changing the well-being of his constituents in the areas of sponsorship and education, empowerment, health, agriculture, and rural electrification".

Sabo further stated that, "It's a matter of repositioning and strengthening the committees in the national assembly because the President or the Executive Arm of Government is by the virtue of the provisions of the Constitution of the country is responsible for the security of lives and property of the citizenry".

The Senate and House of Representatives are also expected to make legislation to support the executive in legislation with the approval of their budgets and what have you to ensure that the security situation is actually improving.

"The issue of security is holistic and collective, and therefore all hands must be on deck to ensure that the lives of citizens of Nigeria is not only secured, but is safe and in the best interest of economic and other development of the nation, so it has got to do with that parcel and part of his legislative activities".

Sabo also recalled that the chairman on Air Force, Senator Godiya Akwashiki has been sick for along time, a situation which also calls for the repositioning of the Senate committees, "And so it's not even surprising he may be asked to continue by some repositioning by including or expanding the committee.

"It is equally to make the committee more robust, impactful and in tandem with the repositioning of the security architecture in the country as embarked upon by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. So these are two independent democratic institutions, the legislature and the Executive.
