The Bauchi State Government has inaugurated a Central Working Committee (CWC) to spearhead the establishment of the Mining Institute, Alkaleri, Bauchi State (MIABAS).

The inauguration ceremony, held on Wednesday at the Ministry of Natural Resources Development headquarters, featured remarks from the Commissioner for Natural Resources Development, Hon. Mohammed Maiwada Bello.

Bello commended the leadership of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, describing the establishment of MIABAS as a strategic step toward strengthening technical capacity, research, and professional training in the mining sector.

He explained that the institute would play a pivotal role in harnessing Bauchi State’s vast mineral deposits by equipping citizens with essential skills in mineral exploration, extraction, processing, value addition, and environmental management.

According to him, MIABAS will help bridge critical knowledge gaps, boost local content, and create opportunities for youth empowerment, employment, and sustainable development across the mining value chain.

The newly inaugurated committee—made up of experienced professionals drawn from key ministries, academic institutions, and mining industry organisations—has been tasked with developing a comprehensive framework for the establishment of the institute within three months.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to the project, the commissioner urged members of the committee to carry out their assignment with professionalism and dedication in order to deliver a world-class centre for mining education, training, and innovation that will serve both national and global needs.

He prayed for Allah’s guidance for the committee as it begins its work, expressing confidence that MIABAS would become a landmark institution in the state’s drive for economic diversification and mineral sector development.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Ibrahim Sulaiman Mato, described the inauguration as a crucial step toward unlocking Bauchi State’s mineral potential. He commended the committee members for their expertise and expressed optimism that they would diligently deliver on their mandate.

Delivering the vote of thanks, Chairman of the Bauchi State House of Assembly Committee on Mines, Hon. Bello Sarki Jadori, assured that the committee would justify the confidence reposed in them. He thanked Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed and Commissioner Maiwada Bello for entrusting them with such an important responsibility.
