No fewer than 26 students have graduated with First Class honours at the combined convocation ceremony of Sir Kashim Ibrahim University, Maiduguri, Borno State.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Babagana Gutti, disclosed this at a press conference, stating that a total of 2,294 students graduated with various classes of degrees from the institution.
According to him, the maiden convocation ceremony, scheduled to hold on January 3, 2026, will cover three academic sessions—2022/2023, 2023/2024, and 2024/2025.
Prof. Gutti explained that during the 2022/2023 academic session, the university graduated 523 students, out of whom five earned First Class honours.
“In the 2023/2024 academic session, the university produced 489 graduates, with 10 students graduating with First Class honours across four faculties,” he said.
He added that in the 2024/2025 academic session, the institution is graduating 1,282 students, out of which 13 students earned First Class honours across the four faculties.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the convocation ceremony would not only mark nine years of academic excellence but also celebrate the university’s impactful and transformative contributions to future leaders, the immediate community, and the nation at large.
He further disclosed that a pre-convocation lecture would be delivered on Friday, January 2, 2026, by Prof. Michael O. Faborode, former Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
The lecture is titled “Insecurity and Environmental Fragility in the Lake Chad Basin Areas: Education, Health and Sustainable Agriculture Tripartite to the Rescue.”
Prof. Gutti also revealed that the ceremony would feature the conferment of degrees, presentation of prizes, and the investiture of a new Chancellor.
“I wish to announce that the Visitor to the University, His Excellency, Prof. (Engr.) Babagana Umara Zulum, Executive Governor of Borno State, has approved the appointment of a new Chancellor for the institution.
“He is His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), CFR, the Ooni of Ife. In line with academic tradition, the conferment of degrees and presentation of prizes will be preceded by the investiture of the new Chancellor,” he added.
