Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has directed commissioners in the state to chair the APC Congress Committees in their respective local government areas.
Governor Bago gave the directive during a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) held at the Hauwa Wali Multipurpose Hall, Government House, Minna.
He explained that the decision became necessary following the expiration of the tenure of the state APC executives.
According to the governor, the commissioners will be responsible for compiling comprehensive lists for their respective local governments and must ensure close collaboration with critical stakeholders.
Governor Bago stated that the congress coordination committees must adhere strictly to agreements reached by stakeholders in each local government area to ensure a rancour-free exercise.
He warned the commissioners against compromising the process, stressing that anyone found wanting would be dealt with accordingly.
Describing the APC as a disciplined party, the governor said it would not condone anti-party activities or gross misconduct by any member.
Also speaking, the APC Vice Chairman, North Central, Mu’azu Bawa Rijau, disclosed that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had resolved that all congresses be conducted by consensus at the ward, local government, state, zonal, and national levels, and urged members to adopt the decision.
