Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing disagreement over the emergence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate.
Lawal said he left the party because the outcome of the ADC presidential primary was allegedly predetermined in favour of Atiku.
He accused the process of being manipulated, insisting that he would not be part of what he described as a “rigging arrangement” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former SGF further stated that he now considers President Bola Ahmed Tinubu a better option compared to the former vice president.
Lawal alleged that Atiku is “incompetent” and described him as a “tribal and religious bigot,” arguing that he should not be allowed to occupy the presidency.
He added that his decision was based on principle and his rejection of what he termed internal manipulation within the ADC.
