Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has commended Fifth Chukker Polo and Country Club for its efforts in preserving and promoting the long-standing tradition of polo in Nigeria.

Governor Bago, popularly known as the "Farmer Governor," gave the commendation during the ongoing Charity Shield Polo Tournament held at the Fifth Chukker Polo and Country Club in Kaduna.

The governor, who is also the President of the Minna Polo Club, noted that sustaining the game of polo requires deliberate investment and commitment. He specifically acknowledged the contributions of the founder of Fifth Chukker Polo Club, Adamu Atta, for his role in preserving the culture and heritage of the sport.

Speaking at the event, Bago said initiatives such as the Charity Shield Tournament were crucial to the continued growth and development of polo in the country.

In one of the matches decided during the tournament, Golden Brick Mode defeated Profile Polo Team by five-and-a-half goals to four to emerge winners of the UNICEF Cup.

In another thrilling encounter, Dan Marna Oil and Gas Polo Team overcame Mangal Polo Club by nine goals to six to claim the Bank Cup.

Governor Bago later presented plaques and trophies to the winners and runners-up in both categories.

The event attracted a large turnout of polo enthusiasts and dignitaries, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; the Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe; the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman; and the President of Katsina Polo Club, Alhaji Sanusi Kabir Usman.
