A prominent chieftain of
the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Sani Ahmad Zangina, has awarded
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration a 90 per cent performance rating
for its achievements over the past three years, citing notable progress in security,
democratic governance and fiscal support to state governments.
Speaking in an interview
with Daily Struggle Newspaper, Zangina said the remaining 10 per
cent of his assessment would depend on the administration's performance during
the final year of its first term.
“I can confidently rate
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration nine out of ten in its third year.
The remaining score will be determined when he completes his fourth year in
office, which, by the grace of God, we expect him to do successfully,” he said.
Opposition Driving Criticism, Not the Majority of Nigerians
The APC stalwart argued
that much of the criticism directed at the Tinubu administration emanates from
political opponents rather than ordinary Nigerians.
According to him, many
Nigerians appreciate the realities of governance and recognise the difficult
circumstances inherited by the administration upon assuming office.
“It is not ordinary
Nigerians or Northerners who are leading the criticism of President Tinubu's
government. Much of the noise is coming from opposition elements. Nigerians who
understand governance and the challenges confronting the nation continue to
support the administration and appreciate its efforts,” he stated.
Tinubu Inherited Severe Security Challenges
Zangina maintained that
the Tinubu administration took office at a critical moment when insecurity had
reached alarming levels across parts of the country, posing significant threats
to lives, property and national stability.
He credited the
government with restoring relative calm to key flashpoints, particularly along
the Abuja-Kaduna corridor, which had previously been plagued by criminal
activities and terrorist attacks.
“President Tinubu
inherited a nation facing serious security challenges. The situation had
deteriorated to the point where threats were approaching the Federal Capital
Territory. Through decisive interventions, the administration has pushed back
criminal elements and significantly improved security along the Abuja-Kaduna
route,” he said.
The APC leader also
commended members of the armed forces and other security agencies for their
sacrifices in the ongoing fight against insecurity.
“Our security personnel
continue to make enormous sacrifices, often at great personal risk, to ensure
that Nigerians can sleep peacefully. Their efforts deserve recognition and
support,” he added.
Nigerians Should Demand Accountability from Governors
Zangina further urged
Nigerians to focus greater attention on how state governments are utilising the
increased allocations received from the Federal Government.
He argued that despite
significant improvements in revenue accruing to states, many citizens are yet
to witness the level of infrastructural development that should ordinarily
accompany such financial inflows.
“Governors are receiving
substantially higher allocations today than in previous years. Nigerians should
begin asking critical questions about how these funds are being utilised and
what tangible projects are being delivered in their communities,” he said.
He stressed that
citizens have a responsibility to hold their elected leaders accountable and
ensure public funds translate into meaningful development.
Support for Policies That Promote National Development
The APC chieftain
described President Tinubu's leadership as visionary and said Nigerians who are
committed to national progress should support policies aimed at strengthening
the economy, deepening democracy and improving security.
He noted that many
citizens continue to defend and promote the administration's programmes despite
having no formal affiliation with the government.
“Supporting policies
that advance national development should not be dependent on holding a
government appointment. Every patriotic Nigerian has a duty to support
initiatives that benefit the country,” he said.
Youths Advised to Resist Political Manipulation
Zangina also cautioned
Nigerian youths against being influenced by what he described as misleading
political narratives propagated by opposition figures.
He urged young people to
evaluate governments based on measurable achievements rather than political
rhetoric.
“Our youths and ordinary
citizens should be wary of those seeking to exploit them through empty promises
and political propaganda. They should assess leaders based on performance,
facts and the realities on the ground,” he stated.
Expressing optimism
about the country's future, Zangina said continued improvements in security,
governance and economic development would further consolidate public confidence
in the Tinubu administration as it advances its reform agenda.
