The Resource Forum of the Islamic movement on Monday described the death of former Iranian leader, Sayyid Ali Khamene'i, as a monumental loss to the global Muslim community, saying his life was defined by faith, service, justice and steadfast leadership.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the Forum’s representative, Professor Abdullahi Danladi, paid tribute to the late Iranian leader ahead of his scheduled burial on July 9, 2026, following commemorative events in the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Iraq.
Professor Danladi said the death of “great scholars and principled leaders” leaves not only a leadership vacuum but also “a profound moral and intellectual void” in society.
According to him, Khamene'i dedicated his life to the service of Islam, the pursuit of justice and the defence of the dignity and independence of the Iranian nation.
“For more than three decades, he led the Islamic Republic of Iran through extraordinary political, economic and military challenges. Despite sanctions, threats and sustained external pressure, he remained steadfast in his convictions and consistently defended what he believed were the rights of his people and the oppressed,” Danladi said.
He added that Khamene’i’s resilience, commitment and steadfast faith earned him admiration beyond the borders of Iran.
The Islamic movement further said history remembers leaders “not merely for the positions they occupied but for the principles they upheld,” adding that Khamene'i would be remembered by many “as a symbol of perseverance, resistance to domination and confidence in the ability of Islam to guide society through the complexities of the modern world.”
Quoting Qur’an 3:185, Danladi reminded Muslims that “every soul shall taste death,” saying death is inevitable for every human being.
“What truly distinguishes a person is not the inevitability of death but the values for which he lived and the legacy he leaves behind. As much as we loved Sayyid Ali Khamene'i, Allah loved him more. We therefore submit to His divine decree with patience and faith,” he said.
Danladi conveyed the Forum’s condolences to the leadership and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Khamene'i's family, the leader of the Islamic movement, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, the global Muslim Ummah and all those who drew inspiration from the late leader’s life and leadership.
He also prayed that Almighty Allah would accept Khamene’i's lifelong service, forgive his shortcomings, grant him the highest ranks in Paradise and bless those mourning him with patience and steadfastness.
Quoting Qur’an 2:156, Danladi concluded: “Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we shall return,” while praying that the late leader’s legacy would remain a source of guidance and inspiration for generations to come.
