The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Public Enlightenment, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, has unveiled a project awareness campaign aimed at showcasing key development projects executed by the Federal Government and state governments across Northern Nigeria.

Abdulaziz launched the initiative, tagged "Gani Ya Kori Ji," on Monday at the maiden Arewa Media Summit in Kano, themed "Government, Citizens: Accountability, Responsibility and Ethical Media Practice."

Speaking at the event, the presidential aide described the initiative as a regional project inspection tour designed to provide citizens with first-hand information on infrastructure and other development projects being implemented by President Bola Tinubu's administration and governors across the region.

He said the campaign is intended to strengthen engagement between government, citizens and the media by promoting accountability, transparency and responsible communication.

Abdulaziz urged journalists and social media influencers to uphold ethical standards by ensuring factual, balanced and accurate reporting, stressing that responsible communication remains essential to effective governance and national development.

He also cautioned social media influencers against spreading unverified information, warning that misinformation and false narratives could deepen divisions, particularly as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

According to him, more than 100 All Progressives Congress (APC) social media communicators were trained ahead of the summit to improve their capacity to effectively communicate government policies, programmes and achievements.

Also speaking, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, called on journalists and social media influencers to deny terrorists and bandits the publicity they seek by promoting responsible reporting that advances national unity.

"The media has an indispensable role in denying violent extremists the publicity they seek, while promoting unity, resilience and hope," the minister said.

Idris noted that although the digital revolution has expanded access to information by turning smartphones into broadcasting platforms, it has also accelerated the spread of fake news and disinformation.

He maintained that democracy can only flourish when government remains transparent, citizens participate responsibly, and the media performs its constitutional role with professionalism, fairness and integrity.
