Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu reminds me of The father of Manhattan Project. He built the Atomic Bomb but later he was stripped of his Q clearance and access to U.S Government orchestrated by his Rival Lewis Strauss. Bashir dalhatu has to deal with the consequences of his achievement. He powered the Arewa consultative forum with funds trickling down to its purse and The National Executive council wants to have access to the forbidden fruit. He was appointed to become the Chairman board of trustees, a board charged with overseeing the whole organization just imagine from no where they emerged, the national executive council and issue a perversive statements saying that they have suspended the chairman board of trustees.
They do not have the political capital to attract fundraising donors to organization until Bashir dalhatu intervened. They thought the old man has lost track of what is going on now until they tried to outsmart him and have access to the endowment fund only then they hit the brick wall and access was denied.
They created a stalemate situation whereby they wanted to make the chairman looked like in desperate state to have access to the fund. This man was a federal minister about 30 years ago, a successful investor and an aristocrat. He was in corridors of power probably when they were in universities or law school. He accepted the BOT position for the purpose of service to the nation.
It is a monumental tragedy in the North for a prestigious organization made up of former head of states, head of security organizations in short, those custodians of state, to be publicly submerged in crisis of leadership. I only suspect invisible political hand to make it functionless until after election.
My take is the elders must summon and punish the national executive council because of their public display of disrespect to elders. When they want to become rich, inside the organization, a single person can pick a phone and call the president, they are just phone call away from fortune. It is not about little fund, it is about the Northern unity. The NEC do not understand Nigeria. They need to have a rethink. NIGERIA HAS ITS OWNERS.
