The Garkuwan Sha’irai Birni Da Kewaye Foundation has organised a vocational skills training and empowerment programme aimed at supporting orphans, widows and other vulnerable members of society in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The programme culminated in the graduation of 500 beneficiaries out of the 700 people who underwent training in various vocational skills. The foundation said the remaining 200 trainees would receive training in a subsequent phase of the programme.

The event attracted several dignitaries, including the Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli; Mai Elsa; Islamic scholars; politicians; and other prominent members of the community.

Among the notable supporters of the initiative was Alhaji Shu’aibu Abdullahi Mai Canter, who donated sewing machines to beneficiaries trained in tailoring. He also provided a cash grant of N100,000 to beneficiaries of the training programme.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the event, the founder of the foundation, Dr Jamila Bala, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah for enabling her to establish and implement the initiative aimed at empowering orphans, widows and other vulnerable members of society.

She also thanked all individuals and organisations that contributed, in various ways, to the success of the programme, stressing the importance of collective efforts in supporting people in need.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed their appreciation to Dr Jamila Bala and the Garkuwan Sha’irai Foundation for the support, which they said had made a meaningful difference in their lives and livelihoods.

They prayed for Allah’s continued blessings upon the foundation and its supporters and expressed hope that the initiative would be sustained and expanded to enable more people to benefit.

The Chairman of Sha’irai in Zazzau emirate, Umar Husaini Ciroma, commended Dr Jamila Bala for her commitment to community development and humanitarian support.

He described her as a dedicated woman who has demonstrated considerable commitment to improving the lives of members of the community, attributing her humanitarian efforts to her love for the Prophet Muhammad (S).

“We are pleased that Allah has given us this courageous woman, Hajiya Jamila, who is making tremendous efforts. She is deeply committed because of her love for the Prophet (S), which motivates her to support many people in the community,” he said.

Ciroma also appealed to members of the public to support Dr Jamila Bala and complement her efforts by contributing towards the foundation’s humanitarian and empowerment initiatives.

He noted that although she does not actively solicit assistance, the scale of the programmes she has undertaken requires collective support to sustain, expand and extend the benefits to more people in need.
