Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has reaffirmed his administration's policy of refusing to negotiate with or make concessions to bandits, according to a statement issued on Thursday by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

The statement said the governor made the declaration during a condolence visit to Bungudu Local Government Area following last week's bandit attack, where he sympathised with affected families, the Emirate and the people of the area.

According to the statement, Governor Lawal first visited the palace of the Emir of Bungudu, His Royal Highness Alhaji Hassan Attahiru, where he outlined his administration's efforts to restore security and peace across Zamfara State.

The governor was quoted as saying that he visited Bungudu to express sympathy and condolences to the families of those affected by the attack, describing the incident as "a test from Almighty Allah."

According to the statement, Lawal assured residents that the state government was committing resources and efforts to end the threat of banditry while urging the people to remain patient, noting that addressing insecurity requires perseverance and prayers.

The statement further quoted the governor as praying for the repose of those who lost their lives and asking God to grant their families the strength to bear the loss. He also pledged that the government would continue to provide necessary assistance to those injured and work towards the safe return of all kidnapped victims.

The Emir of Bungudu, according to the statement, commended the governor for his commitment to tackling insecurity in the state.

"As a member of the state's Security Council, I am aware of the governor's efforts. I am confident that we will overcome the challenge of banditry," the monarch was quoted as saying.

He also thanked Governor Lawal for the condolence visit, describing it as a gesture that meant a great deal to the people of Bungudu Local Government Area.

The statement added that Governor Lawal later visited the family of the late Alhaji Bello Umar Bungudu, as well as other bereaved families, to personally convey his condolences.
