The Zamfara State Adolescent Girls' Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project has held a strategic review meeting with Construction Supervision Consultants ahead of the commencement of the construction of 42 new junior and senior secondary schools across the state's 14 local government areas.
The schools are to be constructed under Sub-component 1.1 of the AGILE Project.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Project Communications Officer of Zamfara AGILE, Bashir Kabiru Ahmad.
According to the statement, the meeting was presided over by the Component Lead, Arc. Ibrahim Ahmed Nahuche, and provided an opportunity for the consultants to present the outcome of their preliminary reviews and assess their readiness to effectively supervise the implementation of the project.
The statement said Mega Projects Nigeria Limited will supervise three construction lots covering Gummi, Bukkuyum, Anka, Bakura, Talata Mafara, Maradun, Maru, Bungudu and part of Gusau Local Government Area, while Chediya Ventures will oversee two construction lots covering Shinkafi, Zurmi, Birnin Magaji, Kaura Namoda, Tsafe and part of Gusau Local Government Area.
According to the statement, the consultants reviewed contractors' work schedules, site-specific Bills of Quantities (BoQs), Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs), Security Management Plans prepared by the Security Consultant appointed by the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU), as well as reports from familiarisation visits and physical site verification exercises.
The statement noted that the review sessions provided the consultants with a comprehensive understanding of the project's technical, environmental, social and security requirements, enabling them to commence supervision with adequate preparation.
Speaking during the meeting, Arc. Nahuche emphasised the need for strict adherence to quality standards, approved specifications and project timelines.
He urged the consultants to discharge their responsibilities with professionalism, diligence and integrity to ensure the successful execution of the project across all benefiting communities.
The statement said the meeting reflects the commitment of the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal to transforming the education sector through sustained investment in infrastructure, particularly in expanding access to quality secondary education for adolescent girls across the state.
It added that the initiative also aligns with the efforts of the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Malam Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, towards implementing the State of Emergency on Education by improving learning environments and strengthening educational outcomes.
The Project Coordinator, Hajiya Sa'adatu Abdu Gusau, reiterated the need for contractors, consultants, host communities and government agencies to work together to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
She said collaboration among stakeholders would be critical to increasing enrolment, improving retention and enhancing the successful completion of secondary education, particularly for adolescent girls in Zamfara State.
According to the statement, the AGILE Project remains committed to providing quality educational infrastructure that will offer safe, inclusive and conducive learning environments while contributing to educational advancement and socio-economic development in the state.
