Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has received the 2026 Efficient Public Resource Management and Transparency Award from Blueprint Newspapers.
Lawal received the award on Tuesday at the 8th edition of the Blueprint Newspapers Annual Public Lecture, Impact Series and Awards, held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The event, which brought together policymakers, security chiefs, political leaders, diplomats, civil society organisations, academics and other stakeholders, was themed “Security Challenges and Integrity of Nigeria’s 2027 Elections.”
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, Lawal expressed appreciation to the management of Blueprint Newspapers for the recognition and pledged to intensify his administration’s efforts to rescue and rebuild Zamfara State.
The governor said the award demonstrated that the efforts of his administration were being noticed beyond the state.
“This award is a testament that the media and Nigerians outside Zamfara are witnessing the efforts my government is putting in our quest to make Zamfara great,” Lawal said.
He added that his administration had recorded achievements in security, education, healthcare, the economy, human capital development and infrastructure during its three years in office, attributing the progress to what he described as a transparent system of governance.
Blueprint Newspapers said Lawal was recognised for his prudent management of public resources, fiscal accountability and efforts to promote transparent governance in Zamfara.
The newspaper said the award was intended to recognise responsible stewardship of public resources and the relationship between fiscal discipline and inclusive development.
Speaking on the governor’s recognition, the Managing Director of Blueprint Newspapers Limited, Salisu Umar, described Lawal as “a blend of professional accomplishment and public service.”
Umar said Lawal’s background in diplomacy, banking and politics had given him broad experience in governance, financial management and institutional leadership.
According to the citation, Lawal’s administration has pursued policies focused on restoring stability, improving infrastructure, strengthening public institutions and creating opportunities for economic growth.
The newspaper also credited the administration with efforts to improve financial discipline and public-sector accountability, while ensuring that public resources are channelled towards projects expected to deliver measurable benefits to residents.
The citation further said the administration had emphasised responsible budgeting, efficient service delivery and prudent management of state finances as foundations for long-term development.
On security, Blueprint said the administration had supported initiatives aimed at improving security operations, protecting rural communities and creating conditions for displaced residents to return to their communities and resume economic activities.
The newspaper also highlighted infrastructure development under Lawal, citing road rehabilitation and construction, improvements to public buildings and investments intended to boost commerce, transportation and access to essential services.
It said the projects were aimed at reconnecting communities, facilitating economic activities and promoting balanced development between urban and rural areas.
The citation further noted the administration’s emphasis on education as a means of reducing poverty and creating opportunities for future generations, as well as its efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
The award ceremony formed part of the annual Blueprint Newspapers event, which also provided a platform for stakeholders to deliberate on practical measures for ensuring peaceful, credible and transparent elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
