The Franco British International University (FBIU), Kaduna, has sought a mentorship partnership with Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) to strengthen the development and academic capacity of the newly established private university.
The Vice-Chancellor/President of FBIU, Prof. Sabo Abdullahi, made the request when he paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of ABU, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, in Zaria.
According to a statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate, Office of the Vice-Chancellor, ABU, on Friday, 18 September 2026, Prof. Abdullahi said the university was granted its licence in 2023 and commenced academic operations in February 2025.
Prof. Abdullahi, an alumnus of ABU, said he considered it appropriate for his alma mater to mentor the institution and help position it as a centre of knowledge and academic excellence.
He also commended ABU for what he described as its strides in technological advancement, particularly its performance in ICT competitions.
The FBIU Vice-Chancellor said the university currently had only a few faculties and departments but expressed hope that, with ABU's guidance and assistance, it would expand its academic programmes and institutional capacity.
He appreciated the management of ABU for its willingness to support and nurture emerging universities.
Responding, the ABU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, welcomed the decision of Franco British International University to choose ABU as its mentoring institution.
Prof. Ahmed said ABU had mentored several universities in Nigeria and other countries, including institutions in Liberia, The Gambia, Sudan and Niger, across different academic fields.
He reaffirmed ABU's readiness to contribute to the advancement of tertiary education and assured the visiting institution of the university's support in areas required for its development.
According to him, such support could include access to ABU's staff, students and facilities, as appropriate, to assist the new university in building its academic and institutional capacity.
Prof. Ahmed was accompanied by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Bello Sabo; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Raymond Bako; Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof. Aliyu Rafindadi Sanusi; Director, Academic Planning and Monitoring, Prof. Bello Mukhtar; and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Ibrahim Sani Kaita.
The Franco British International University delegation included the Director, Linkages and Collaboration, Alhaji Umar Alkali; Dean of Student Affairs, Alhaji Abdullahi Mairinga; Dean of Nursing, Hajiya Karima Dan-Malam; Personal Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Ibrahim Jibril Aliyu; and Media Personnel, Alhassan Ayasa.
