The North West Youth Unity Forum has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and political leaders from Northern Nigeria to take urgent steps to address insecurity and economic hardship in the region ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

The forum, in a statement issued by its Zonal Director-General, Comrade Muhammad Danladi, said the continued killings and insecurity affecting communities across the North required immediate and decisive government intervention.

Danladi said the ability of political leaders to secure the support of Northerners in the forthcoming elections would depend, among other things, on their response to the security challenges confronting the region.

“Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and all Northern politicians, if you want the votes and support of the people of Northern Nigeria in the forthcoming general elections, you must take immediate and decisive action to stop the killings of our people,” he said.

According to him, residents of affected communities deserve to live peacefully and carry out their economic activities, particularly farming, without fear of attacks.

He said insecurity had continued to threaten lives, communities and livelihoods, particularly in areas where residents depend largely on agriculture for survival.

“Our people deserve to live in peace and safety. We must be able to return to our farms and engage in agriculture without fear of being attacked or killed,” Danladi said.

“We cannot continue to live under constant insecurity while our communities are being destroyed and our livelihoods are being threatened.”

The forum also called on President Tinubu and Northern political leaders to support the restoration of the fuel subsidy, arguing that rising fuel prices and the cost of living had placed considerable economic pressure on ordinary Nigerians.

Danladi said any restoration of the subsidy should be implemented without conditions that would impose additional financial burdens on citizens.

“Secondly, Mr. President and our Northern political leaders must immediately restore the fuel subsidy without imposing conditions that will further burden ordinary Nigerians,” he said.

“The rising cost of fuel and living expenses has placed enormous hardship on our people, and urgent action is needed to ease this burden.”

The Zonal Director-General urged the President and political leaders in the North, particularly those from the North-West, to listen to the concerns of residents and take concrete measures to protect lives and livelihoods.

He maintained that addressing insecurity and economic hardship should remain priorities for political leaders seeking the support of the people.

“We are calling on the President and all Northern politicians to listen to the voices of the people, protect our lives and livelihoods, and take concrete action to address these challenges,” Danladi said.

He said the position represented the message of the North West Youth Unity Forum to the President and political leaders across Northern Nigeria.
