The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published a list featuring Hon. Comrade Muhammad El-Khamis, formerly known as Umar Muhammad Hamis, as a candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Basawa Constituency seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the document made available, El-Khamis appears at serial number 239 on the list of candidates for the forthcoming election.
His inclusion on the list marks another milestone in his political career as he seeks to represent Basawa Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
El-Khamis previously contested the 2024 Kaduna State Local Government Council elections, during which he participated in efforts to promote collaboration among opposition candidates and political stakeholders advocating improved governance in the state.
He also played a leading role in the formation of the Coalition of Candidates for Kaduna State Local Government Council Elections, an initiative that brought together candidates from more than seven political parties.
According to the document, the coalition comprised more than 600 candidates across different political platforms, with the aim of promoting cooperation, strengthening opposition participation and encouraging a more coordinated approach to electoral engagement in Kaduna State.
Reacting to his appearance on the published list, El-Khamis expressed appreciation to his supporters, associates, political stakeholders and well-wishers for their prayers, encouragement and continued support throughout his political journey.
He also thanked Almighty Allah for His guidance and acknowledged members of the Basawa Constituency Project 2027 and others who have continued to support his political ambition.
The NDC candidate described his inclusion on the list as an important step in the electoral process and reaffirmed his commitment to public service, effective representation, accountability and sustainable development in Basawa Constituency.
As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, El-Khamis is seeking the mandate of voters to represent Basawa Constituency in the Kaduna State House of Assembly.
