Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has marked its 64th anniversary, expressing appreciation to its alumni, students, staff, government officials, parents, guardians and other stakeholders for their continued support and contributions to the growth of the institution.
The university, which attained the milestone on Sunday, October 4, 2026, described the occasion as an important moment to reflect on its history, achievements and enduring contributions to education and national development.
In a message signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, the university expressed gratitude to friends and well-wishers whose support has strengthened the relationship between ABU and the wider society.
The Vice-Chancellor particularly appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for what the university described as far-reaching reforms and strategic interventions in the education sector, noting their positive impact on the sector.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Executive Governors of Zamfara, Kaduna and Katsina States—Dr Dauda Lawal, Malam Uba Sani and Malam Umar Dikko Radda—for their consistent engagement, support and commitment to the university.
Prof. Ahmed further recognised the leadership and guidance of His Highness, Malam Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, Emir of Zazzau, in matters concerning the university and its surrounding communities.
The university also extended its appreciation to the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa; the Chancellor, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Ugochukwu Abebe, CFR, Obi of Onitsha; the Chairman of the Governing Council, Mahmoud Yayale Ahmed, CFR; members of Council and Senate; staff and students for their commitment and prayers.
ABU also commended its alumni, both as individuals and through their various organisations, for their tremendous support to the institution in diverse ways.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university looked forward to receiving greater support from its numerous alumni and other stakeholders as it continued its mission of serving Nigeria and humanity.
Established in 1962, Ahmadu Bello University has remained one of Nigeria’s leading institutions of higher learning, with a long history of contributing to education, research, innovation and human capital development.
As the university celebrates 64 years of existence, it reaffirmed its commitment to building on its achievements and strengthening its role in national development.
