The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has commissioned and handed over newly constructed, solar-powered boreholes to six communities in Kogi State to improve access to potable water.
The benefiting locations are the 500 Housing Estate and 200 Housing Estate in Lokoja; Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja; New Onu Itobe Palace, Ibaji Quarters, Itobe, in Ofu Local Government Area; Behind Dual Hotel, Ede-Adejo Phase II, Idah, in Idah Local Government Area; and Adanjere Village in Kogi Local Government Area.
The projects were executed under the leadership of the commission’s Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, FCNA, FNIM, FNIIS (Katukan Yauri), as part of efforts to improve the welfare of communities in hydroelectric power-producing areas.
Yelwa was represented at the commissioning ceremony by the Kogi State Coordinator, Dr Michael Omeiza Ajayi, who was accompanied by the Koton-Karfe Area Officer, Mr Zubeiru Ali Bukar; the Idah Area Officer, Mr Ameh Martins Sunday; and other members of staff.
Speaking at the event, Ajayi reaffirmed that the commission’s development roadmap for Kogi State was guided by input from beneficiary communities.
He also disclosed that N-HYPPADEC had completed feasibility studies for the installation of transformers to address electricity supply challenges in the state.
In their goodwill messages, representatives of the benefiting communities expressed appreciation to the commission for delivering the projects, describing the intervention as timely.
They said their communities had faced water-supply challenges before N-HYPPADEC’s intervention.
