Muslims from Niger, Ghana, Cameroon, Algeria, Morocco and other countries, as well as people from various parts of Nigeria, gathered in Kano last Friday for the inauguration of the grand Zawiya of Sheikh Muhajjadina Sani Al-Falaki.
The ceremony brought together prominent Islamic scholars, sheikhs, muqaddams, disciples and members of the wider Muslim community.
Speaking on the history and establishment of the Zawiya, Sheikh Muhajjadina Sani Al-Falaki said the initiative was rooted in the spiritual heritage he inherited from his forefathers and parents, who were raised within the Sufi tradition and devoted themselves to acts of worship in various zawiyas.
He explained that a Zawiya has existed at his ancestral family home for generations and continues to serve as a testament to the family’s longstanding spiritual heritage.
According to him, this historical legacy, coupled with the counsel and encouragement of elders, scholars, admirers and disciples, inspired him to establish the new Zawiya as a lasting legacy for his children, grandchildren and generations to come.
Sheikh Muhajjadina said his vision is for the Zawiya to serve as a centre of worship and remembrance of Allah, where congregational prayers, wazifa, dhikr, hailala, istighfar, salawat upon the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and other acts of worship consistent with Islamic teachings and the laws of the country would be observed.
He added that the Zawiya would also serve as a place where members of the public could seek prayers, spiritual guidance, counsel, assistance and other forms of support.
He further explained that charitable initiatives undertaken through foundations and other humanitarian programmes associated with the Zawiya would also be accommodated there. These include providing assistance to people in need of medicines and other basic necessities.
On the Zawiya’s relationship with other religious institutions, Sheikh Muhajjadina said it maintains cordial relations with Islamic scholars and religious organisations in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
He stressed that the Zawiya has no agenda of violence or confrontation with any organisation, emphasising its commitment to peaceful religious engagement.
In his message to the Muslim community, Sheikh Muhajjadina called for greater consciousness of Allah, obedience, commitment to the faith, trustworthiness and truthfulness. He also urged the faithful to strengthen their love for and attachment to Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
He concluded with prayers for lasting peace, good leadership, progress and prosperity in Nigeria, while asking Allah to fulfil the righteous wishes and aspirations of the people.
