The Niger State Police Command has disclosed that no fewer than three people were killed following a clash between local vigilantes and aggrieved youths in the Kpakungu area of Minna, the state capital.
It was gathered that a group of vigilantes mobilised to the Kpakungu area to arrest some suspected miscreants. During the operation, one of the vigilantes allegedly shot and killed a man identified as Aliyu, sparking protests in the area.
The incident occurred at about 10 p.m. on Saturday along the Minna–Bida Road in the Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State.
In the early hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026, some of the youths reportedly mobilised and blocked the Minna–Bida Road in protest. They also moved to the Gbeganu area, where they allegedly attacked residents.
Reports indicated that two additional people were killed during the attacks and had since been buried, according to findings.
The Niger State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident.
He said police tactical teams had been deployed to the affected areas, where the rioters were dispersed and the road cleared to allow the free flow of traffic.
He added that police patrol teams mobilised to the area had restored normalcy, while efforts were ongoing to arrest the vigilante member allegedly involved in the shooting and other persons connected to the violence.
