The Federal College of Education (FCE) Zaria has established a committee to investigate the activities of  12 students suspected to be cultists who were arrested and handed over to the police for more investigation.

Dr. Suleiman Balarabe, the Provost of the College disclosed this in an interview with the newsmen during the matriculation ceremony for NCE (Part-Time) for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The Provost said the establishment of the committee was part of the college's determined to stem the challenge which poses threat the college and it's neighborhood.

"The committee involved season administrators, lecturers, security agencies, religious and traditional leaders," the Provost.

He explained that a student made a report to the security division that some students of the college were into cultism and they were trying to initiate him.

He added that the school security embarked on a prompt response and initiate investigation into the matter with a view to uproot the gang; in the process 12 students were found to be involved.

"After preliminary investigation at the college, the suspected cultists were handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department of the Kaduna police command for more investigation.

"Here in the college, we established a committee with a view to get to the roots of the matter and do away with it.

The Provost, therefore, admonished the matriculating students from any form of display of anti-social behaviours, especially as it concerns examination malpractice, indecent dressing, and unlawful associations (cultism) and drug abuse among others.

He urges them to toe the path of honor both within and outside the college as it enjoys a reputation for producing excellent teachers for the nation.

Adding that College is to prepare fully qualified professional teachers who will later in life help prepare their own students not only to learn and pass examinations but to live respectable and acceptable lives in their communities.

Daily Struggle reports that a total of 1680 students for NCE Part-Time took matriculation oath for the 2023/2024 academic session.
