The governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commended the organizers of INSPIRE FOR IMPACT INITIATIVES for launching the inaugural ‘YOUTH OPPORTUNITIES SUMMIT 2024’ event in the state.
DAILY STRUGGLE reports that the event was organized by Mrs. Hauwa Liman, the Technical Advisor to the Vice President of Nigeria, Kashim Shettima, on women, youth engagement, and impact. The initiative was designed to help northern Nigerian youth leverage opportunities to build a future-ready generation.
The program was held at the Bayero University Kano convocation arena on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, and attended by many students, youth, and corps members.
In his opening speech, the governor of Kano State, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by the Commissioner of Higher Education, Dr. Yusuf Kofar Mata, said bringing the inaugural event to Kano is commendable. He urged the youth to always imbibe the habits of honesty, patience, and perseverance to achieve success. “I advise youth to be honest, patient, and persevering; to me, these are the keys to success,” he emphasized.
“One thing fundamental to our development and prosperity is to learn, unlearn, and relearn,” he added.
He stressed that the government of Kano State has prioritized education, allocating 30 percent of the 2024 budget to education. He mentioned that the governor has also paid 700 million naira to Bayero University for the payment of school fees for Kano State indigenes as “educational palliatives.”
Additionally, he noted that the state government has slashed 50 percent of the school fees at state-owned tertiary institutions, benefiting hundreds of thousands of students from the governor’s gesture.
The event was attended by many dignitaries, including the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the vice chancellors of Bayero University Kano, Baba Ahmed University, Kano, and the Federal Commissioner, Tax Appeal Tribunal, Prof. Kabiru Isa Dandago, who presented a keynote speech.
