Our attention has been drawn to a purported planned protest against the decision of the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) to ensure due diligence in the implementation of its Youth Transformation Programme (YTP). It is unfortunate that this protest is being organized by individuals and their sponsors at a time when the Commission is doing everything possible to ensure that the programme achieves its desired objectives.

Nura Tanko Wakili, anipr, Head of Press and Public Affairs, N-HYPPADEC, stated, "Currently, we have secured concessions from the Corporate Affairs Commission, which has offered a 50% discount to register business names for each graduand. We have requested the graduands to report to their State or Area Offices to update their records along with a letter from their Master Trainers and an undertaking from the parent or guardian of the trainee that the start-up kits to be given are not transferable under any guise, and a detailed, verifiable address of where the trainee intends to set up his/her business. To our dismay, only a fraction of the graduands have presented themselves for the exercise."

We, therefore, call on all graduands to present themselves for this exercise, as our contractors have already started supplying the start-up packs across the six N-HYPPADEC states. The distribution of the packs is expected to be flagged off soon by the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu CON, in Minna, Niger State.

It is important to place on record that our empowerment programmes, especially the Youth Transformation Programme (YTP), are designed to address the issues encountered by similar initiatives from both public and private organizations in the past, where they "throw the baby out with the bathwater." Our programme encompasses additional aspects that will ensure the sustainability of the businesses after resettlement. The target is not only the well-being of the trained youth but also nurturing entrepreneurs who will contribute to building stronger economies in their local communities.

We urge the youth to fully engage with the programme by cooperating with the Commission on this laudable initiative aimed at addressing employment challenges in the country and freeing themselves from the influence of mischief-makers whose sole interest is to distract the public from the outstanding achievements recorded by the Commission under the able leadership of its Managing Director, Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, FCNA, FNIM, in the areas of flood control infrastructure, education, agriculture, potable water supply, youth transformation, and security, among others.
