The Niger State Government is organizing contract farming as part of its agricultural initiative, inviting participation from interested Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), including the Nigeria Customs Service.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago disclosed this during an interview following a retirement reception held in honor of the retired Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs, organized by his family and friends in Abuja.
Governor Bago explained that the contract farming initiative aims to provide opportunities for MDAs interested in crop production, thereby ensuring food security. The state government will offer cleared and prepared land for cultivation and will select the crops to be planted.
He expressed confidence that this initiative will significantly boost food production, thereby reducing the cost of food crops across the country.
