An honest driver, identified as Safiyanu Mohammed, has returned a substantial sum of money to the Kano State Police Command.
This was revealed in a statement signed by the Command's spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, and made available to the press in Kano.
According to the statement, Mohammed, a 36-year-old resident of Rangaza Quarters in Ungogo Local Government Area and an indigene of Katsina State, found the money in a bag on Friday, August 9, at Hadejia Road by Dakata Junction. He promptly handed the bag over to the police.
SP Kiyawa noted that the bag contained a large sum of money, but lacked any unique identification or contact information for the owner.
"In a remarkable display of honesty and integrity, a commercial motor vehicle driver has returned a lost bag containing a substantial amount of money to the Kano State Police Command," the statement read.
The Command is now urging the rightful owner to come forward and claim their property. To facilitate the return, the owner is required to provide proof of ownership and identification.
Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Dogo Garba, commended the driver for his exemplary honesty and urged anyone with information about the owner's identity to contact the Kano State Police Command at 07033093437 or visit the Police Public Relations Office (PPRO) at Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano.
