The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has condemned the gruesome murder of Mojisola Awesu, a 21-year-old student of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, calling for a thorough investigation to identify and bring to justice those responsible for this heinous crime.
The association also stated that "the silence of the authorities is deafening, and we will not stand idly by while the lives of Nigerian students are treated with such disregard."
The NANS Senate President, Mr. Henry Okunomo, made this known in a statement signed on Tuesday, a copy of which was made available to the press in Kano.
It will be recalled that the lifeless body of Mojisola was discovered at a refuse dump in the Aleniboro area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The statement reads: "Mojisola's tragic fate is a stark reminder of the pervasive violence and impunity that plagues our society. We demand justice for Mojisola and her family."
Okunomo further stated that the Kwara State Police Command must swing into action, leaving no stone unturned in apprehending and prosecuting the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
NANS urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation, following all leads and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice.
"The silence of the authorities is deafening, and we will not stand idly by while the lives of Nigerian students are treated with such disregard. We call on the Kwara State Government to take concrete steps to address the growing insecurity and violence in the state, particularly against students. The safety and well-being of students must be prioritized."
"We stand in solidarity with Mojisola's family, friends, and the entire student community in Kwara State. We will continue to demand justice and push for a safer Nigeria for all."
