Residents of Katagum Local Government Area in Bauchi State have expressed their gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, and State Governor Bala Mohammed for their support during the recent organized protest against perceived bad governance.

Katagum Local Government Caretaker Chairman, Alh. Musa Ahmad Azare, commended the authorities while speaking to journalists in Azare, the LGA headquarters, following the vandalization of public property by protest hijackers.

"I want to thank the DIG, IGP, and the President for identifying with Katagum LGA during these trying times. It is indeed a sad event, and we pray it does not occur again," said Azare.

Azare, who received a team from the Nigeria Police Force led by Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Bala Ciroma, noted the professional conduct of the police in quelling the protests. "There is no single casualty here in Azare. No protester was shot. Only two teargas canisters were fired, and there was no loss of property or injury to any protester," he stated.

He appealed to the people of Katagum LGA to refrain from destroying public property, emphasizing that it belongs to them, not the government officials.

Azare praised Governor Bala Mohammed for his logistical support and constant communication since the protests began. "His Excellency has been very concerned and has provided significant support to help manage the situation," he said.

DIG Bala Ciroma described the incident as unfortunate and urged protesters to exercise patience and avoid violent acts. "Protesters have the right to protest but not to destroy public property. People should think carefully before they act," he advised.

He noted that normalcy has returned to Azare following the imposition of a 24-hour curfew by the Bauchi State government and emphasized the need to fortify security to prevent future occurrences.

DIG Ciroma also warned against protesters carrying or waving foreign flags, stating that such actions could be considered treasonable felonies.

The visit by DIG Ciroma, who was accompanied by AIG Julius Alawari and CP Auwal Musa Mohammed, aimed to assess the situation and engage with local stakeholders on the dangers of violent protests.
