President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has Inaugurated Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the acting 23rd Chief Justice of Nigeria.

She is to act as the CJN pending confirmation by the Senate.

The inauguration which took place at a ceremony held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja saw Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun take the oath of office and sign the oath register at 11:40 am.

Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, by this, becomes the second female to serve as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, after Mariam Mukhtar, who was the CJN between July 2012 and November, 2014.

She succeed Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, who retired from service as the Chief Justice of the Federation, having attained the compulsory retirement age of 70.

The 66 year old was elevated to the Court of Appeal on 22nd September 2004 where she served in various Divisions of the Court and as presiding Justice of two Divisions of the Court (Makurdi & Akure).

She later joined the Supreme Court of Nigeria as the 5th female Justice of the Court and was sworn-in on Monday 8 July 2013.
