The Emir of Agaie in Niger State, Alhaji Yusuf Nuhu, has commended the Niger State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) for its efforts to reposition basic education in the state.
The Emir made these remarks on Tuesday when he received the school enrollment campaign team, led by the NSUBEB Chairman, Malam Muhammad Baba Ibrahim, who is also the Maiyakin Agaie, at his palace.
He noted that the state’s educational system has lagged in recent years. As a professional teacher, he reflected on how education used to be and how it has declined, stressing the need for concerted efforts to address the situation.
The Emir emphasized the importance of moving beyond lamentation and finding lasting solutions to the challenges facing education in the state. He highlighted the significance of teachers' training and called for the reinstatement of Grade Two Teacher Training Schools.
He also noted that basic education is the foundation of all learning and expressed satisfaction with the steps being taken by NSUBEB to revitalize the sector. He pledged the support of his emirate council to the board’s initiatives and prayed for their success.
In Lapai, the Emir of Lapai, Alhaji Umar Bago Tafida, represented by the Secretary of the Emirate Council and Danmasanin Lapai, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibrin Sheikh, stated that most of their concerns had been addressed by the NSUBEB Chairman’s remarks. He appreciated the visit and pledged the emirate’s support for the enrollment campaign initiated by NSUBEB.
During the campaign's visit to Katcha Local Government, the Sheshi Katcha and District Head of Katcha, Alhaji Adamu Baba Katcha, expressed his gratitude to the team for their visit. He mentioned that he had been seeking an opportunity to discuss some of their community’s needs with NSUBEB leadership.
He explained that the primary school in Katcha town is one of the earliest established in the entire Northern region. He appealed to the NSUBEB Chairman to renovate the school and construct a fence for improved security.
In his remarks at all three locations—Lapai, Agaie, and Katcha—NSUBEB Chairman Malam Muhammad Baba Ibrahim said the campaign aims to raise public awareness about the importance of enrolling children in school. He stressed that achieving this goal requires the support of traditional leaders, parents, teachers, School-Based Management Committees (SBMC), and other stakeholders.
He added that NSUBEB has implemented various measures to enhance basic education in the state, including improving teachers' welfare and providing a conducive learning environment.
