The Niger State House of Assembly has passed a bill to establish the Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action, Mokwa. The bill, officially titled the "Abdulsalami Abubakar University of Agriculture and Climate Action Law 2024," was approved during a plenary session.
According to RukotoTV, the bill was presented by Hon. Muhammad Sani Idris, Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Science, and Technology, and representative of the Tafa Constituency. Hon. Idris noted that the committee sought input from key stakeholders before finalizing the legislation.
The bill aims to upgrade the existing College of Agriculture, Mokwa, into a full-fledged state university, named in honor of General Abdulsalami Abubakar. The university will specialize in agricultural education and climate action, integrating modern practices and information technology, in accordance with the curriculum approved by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Speaker of the House, Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, who presided over the session, instructed the Clerk to forward the bill to the Governor for executive assent.
